The Process

  • Pre-Pro

This whole process starts with a conversation. We talk about your vision for what will work best for you, and I tell you how I help make that idea a reality. Typically, this takes place over a call or email, but a cup of coffee works well too. We then move on to the specifics of the shoot, such as location, timing and pricing. And if you want to save a buck, ask me about Cost-Sharing. About a week before the shoot, I recommend a location scout to familiarize myself with the property. This includes taking scout photos, which we will then review and discuss to develop a shot list. Along the way, we will also take care of contracts and payments, but don't worry; these are all pretty painless too.

  • Shoot

Director Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) once compared the filming of his movies to going to the grocery store. It’s when you collect all the ingredients to take back to the kitchen and make the meal. The comparison to my process is spot on. Architectural shots rarely happen with one click of the camera and are usually made up of lots of photos that don’t always look like much at the moment. But all of these pieces come together in post to create something wonderful. At times, this process can make for a rather “boring” experience to watch. But during the shoot, the collaboration between you and me to make key creative decisions could not be more important, and I try to keep you as informed and engaged as possible.

  • Edit & Delivery

This is really where the magic happens, and the bulk of the actual work is done. I typically budget about 4-6 hours per photo for processing. And generally start delivering photos about a week after the shoot. After I’ve made the first pass of all the images, I will share them with you for review. Hopefully, they look perfect! But this is still an opportunity to make changes and realize the original vision. Once everything is perfect, the full-resolution JPEGs are delivered via Dropbox, along with the option for the images to be resized for the web & social media.

  • Usage

Alright, we’re almost done! You’ve got the photos, everyone is over the moon with how good they look, and you can’t wait to share them with the world! From here, the usage license of the contract kicks in. Please remember that photographers make their living on licensing their photos, so please use them appropriately. If anyone loves the photos as much as you do and wants to use them too, I am more than happy to work with them on that.
Hopefully I’ve done everything you wished for and exceeded expectations on more than one occasion. Let’s grab another cup of coffee (or stronger) and I look forward to seeing you on the next one!
